Mongolia

Mongolia! I always wanted to go there. I have to say that I like empty countries, vast landscapes and remote places. I booked myself in May on a 2-week-trip with Intrepid (again!) and when I arrived in Ulaan Baatar (with a nightstop in Beijing) to my surprise - we were just 2 people on this trip. I have to be honest - it was very exhausting, because you sit most of the days in the bus and try to get from A to B in 6-9 hours on the most difficultiest ways (because you can't say there are real roads). Our route was from UB (Ulaan Baatar) to the Amarbayasgalant Monastery - Erdenet - Unt - Selenge River - Khovsgol Lake - Murun - Shine Ider - Khorgo (White Lake) - Tsetserleg - Tsenher Hot Springs - Kharkorin - Erdene Zuu Monastery - Bayan Gobi - Khogno Khan and back to UB. Accommodation was fantastic - we stayed in Ger-camps. Food was really good, even you don't have a lot of choices - basically it's goat or sheep (cooked) with potatoes, carrots and rice (no spices). I got every weather - from sandstorms to burning hot sun, from snow to heavy rainfalls. Just one thing I can complain about is: it was dirty - dirty with plasticbags, glass bottles and other rubbish ... this is what I didn't expect at all in Mongolia.

Mongolei! Ich wollte immer schon mal dorthin - aber ich muss auch gestehen, daß ich einfach auf die großen Weiten und Leeren mancher Länder einfach stehe! Im Mai wars soweit - ein 2-wöchiger Trip mit Intrepid in die Mongolei. Als ich in Ulaan Baatar ankam (mit einer Übernachtung in Peking davor) gleich die große Überraschung - wir sind nur zu zweit. Es war sicherlich einer meiner anstrengendsten Trips - die meiste Zeit sitzt man im Bus um von A nach B zu gelangen - und das gleich für 6-9 Stunden. Die Wege (den Straßen kann man das absolut nicht nennen) sind sehr schwierig zu befahren. Unsere Route war von UB (Ulaan Baatar) zum Amarbayasgalant Kloster - Erdenet - Unt - Selenge Fluß - Khovsgol See - Murun - Shine Ider - Khorgo (weißer See) - Tsetserleg - Tsenher Quellen - Kharkorin - Erdene Zuu Kloster - Bayan Gobi - Khogno Khan und wieder retour nach UB. Die Unterkünfte waren super - ich hatte meine eigene Jurte. Essen war eigentlich gut, obwohl es ausser Ziege oder Schaf (gekocht) mit Karotten, Kartoffel und Reis (und ungewürzt) nichts gibt. Wettermässig hatte ich alles - von Regen, Schnee, Sonne (mit Sonnenbrand!) bis zu Sandstürmen. Es hat mir wirklich alles gut gefallen, bis auf eines: das Land war sehr, sehr verschmutzt mit Plastiksäcken, Glasflaschen und anderen Müll. Und das hätte ich mir in einem fast leeren Land nicht erwartet.
